Our Services
The Microbiology Department at Concord Hospital provides diagnostic microbiology services for Concord and Canterbury Hospital. In addition, the laboratory has a special interest in the diagnosis of fungal, parasitic, mycobacterial, and gastrointestinal infections as well as detection of antimicrobial resistance. In 2016 the laboratory established a veterinary diagnostic service.

All Staff Specialists within the department have dual qualifications in the clinical management of Infectious Diseases.
The Microbiology service complements the ID service and has experience in antimicrobial stewardship and hospital infection control management.
Hours
Laboratory reception is staffed 8.00am-4.30pm on weekdays (ph 97676904), and staff are available 8.30am-5pm on weekends for enquiries (9767 6658). Laboratory operating hours are 6.00am – 10.00pm weekdays, 9.00 – 5.00pm weekends.
Outpatients
Patients with a request form for any pathology provider can have their blood tests or specimens tested at Concord Microbiology. Collection centres are located on the ground floor in the Concord Hospital main entrance lobby, 8.30am – 5pm Mon - Fri, and on the lower ground floor of the new Rusty Priest building, 7.30am – 5pm Mon - Fri.
The outpatient clinic for Infectious Diseases is on Thursdays, 1.45-4.30pm on level 6 west of the main hospital building. A GP or specialist referral is required for the clinic.
