The Concord Repatriation General Hospital Ophthalmology Department is managed by the Sydney Local Health District and provides specialised ophthalmic services for the local community, war veterans and patients beyond the catchment area that are in need of further expertise.
The Ophthalmology Department services more than 15,000 ambulatory care patients and performs over 1000 operations annually. A broad range of specialities are offered to the community, inclusive of: cataract, general, oculoplastic, vitreo-retinal, uveitis, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, corneal, medical and surgical retina. The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including automated visual field analyser, A & B ultrasound, biometry, optical coherence tomography, specular microscope, Argon and YAG lasers.
The Ophthalmology Department is one of the largest accredited ophthalmological teaching unit in Australia. Ophthalmology consultants train future generations of ophthalmologists onsite through the outpatient clinic and operating theatres. The Department's affiliation with the University of Sydney (Sydney Medical School) is strong, through its historical record of teaching and training. Research is strongly encouraged.
