Our Services
Psychology services range from helping patients manage psychological problems relating to their medical condition, to giving detailed tests to help patients and their doctors understand how their problems with memory and attention, for example, are likely to affect them. The Department sees outpatients and patients from all wards in the hospital, and may also take tertiary referrals from the district. In addition, we offer consultancy to ward staff regarding managing difficult behaviour in inpatient settings.
Clinical Psychology
Provides assessment, therapy and counselling for:
- Psychological difficulties such as anxiety & depression
- Managing stress, fatigue and nausea
- Pain management
- Managing grief
- Relationship difficulties
- Adjusting to lifestyle changes caused by health problems
Neuropsychology
Provides detailed cognitive testing to:
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in mental skills such as memory, attention and problem solving
- Help establish which condition is causing problems in mental skills
- Clarify the practical consequences of cognitive problems, such as how much support a person is likely to need in making decisions or managing finances for example
