About Us


Stomal Therapy, in Australia, has been recognised as a sub-specialty within the broader nursing profession since 1971. Our team of specialist nurses are all members of the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses.

The Stomal Therapy Departmentoffers specialist nursing services to assistpatients adapt to living with either a permanent or temporary stoma such as a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy.

The Stomal Therapy role includes pre-operative education and counselling as well as post-operative care and education. Out-patient services are offered to provide ongoing support and intervention. We promote quality care for all people with stomas and aim to improve quality of life. Family and/or carers are encouraged to be involved in Stomal Therapy education sessions at the discretion of the patient.
