  2. Over 23,000 patients are treated within surgical departments each year

  3. On average 250 beds at RPA are occupied by surgical patients each day

The monitoring and management of surgical activity within operating theatres is provided by the Operating Theatre Management Committee, which also meets monthly and has a multidisciplinary and multi-specialty focus.

The aim of the IAS is to enhance the academic standing of each surgical department so that surgical research and educational activities are undertaken as a matter of routine, and that structures are in place to support and recognise the ongoing pursuit of academia.
