Surgical Skills and Training

Surgical training and skills are a crucial component in surgical training and education.

RPA is home to several training facilities including the David Storey Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre based within the IAS building which includes:

  • Surgical Skills Laboratory - simple knot tying, suturing using various models from basic training to advanced laparoscopy
  • Simulation Theatre - crisis management, neonatal simulation and multidisciplinary trauma scenarios
  • Tutorial Rooms

The IAS offers adhoc training and access to the facility for all surgical trainees to practice their skills.

Our facility is available for surgical departments to use, as well as for multi-disciplinary and multi-speciality training including Cardiac Life Support courses, training for nurses, allied health, and medical students.
