The Institute of Academic Surgery (IAS) is located on the corner of Missenden Road and Carillon Avenue Camperdown, with entry via Brown Street.
The facility has multiple rooms including meeting rooms, tutorial rooms, a simulated theatre, and a surgical skills laboratory.

The David Storey Skills and Simulation Centre
The IAS surgical training facilities were opened in 2016 and have been named in honour of Associate Professor David Storey who was a Hepatobiliary and Upper GI surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred for over 35 years.
Assoc. Professor Storey was instrumental in the design and construction of the surgical training facilities and have driven innovative model making for surgical skills and education.
Although retired from clinical practice, Assoc. Professor Storey still holds the Director of Surgical Education position at the IAS and has been instrumental in setting up surgical training, including the construction of training models.
The simulation operating theatre is set up to run high fidelity and low fidelity simulations. The room is suitable for nursing, medical, surgical, allied healthcare, and inter-disciplinary simulations.
The IAS currently has the Laerdal SimMan Essentials, SimMum and SimNewBy simulation manikins available for use.
The Simulation theatre is equipped for AV recording of simulation to facilitate debriefing and viewing of sessions in the tutorial room.
- Surgical Skills Laboratory
The skills laboratory is set up to run skills training exercises on up to 15 small stations. The laboratory can be used for various types of skills training ranging from basic to more advanced training. The room has multiple monitors and an instructors set up to display techniques through the room and into the tutorial rooms.
The skills laboratory is equipped for skills training for all levels - beginner to expert.
- Tutorial and Meeting Rooms
Our two teaching rooms can be hired individually or as a whole. One room can seat up to 15 people in a desk setting or can be opened up to accommodate 30 people. The rooms are fitted with 75 inch smart televisions with HDMI connectivity, allowing for laptop connection.
The televisions are linked to the cameras in the skills laboratory and simulation theatre to allow for live streaming.
The room can be set up as a boardroom or lecture style setting and is equipped with tea and coffee making facilities.
