Student Absence

Neither the student nor their facilitator is able to negotiate additional shifts or make up time to account for a student's absenteeism.

The process to manage student absenteeism is detailed below:

  1. Log into ClinConnect and adjust the students 'attendance record' marking the student as 'absent' for the respective shift(s) that the student has not attended. SLHD staff should also contact the respective education provider, advising them of the student's absence as they may be unaware that the student is not on placement.

  2. The education provider is then required to negotiate with the respective discipline contact to discuss additional hours to be made up and suitable dates that are appropriate for the unit and the student.

  3. Once dates are agreed upon a placement by exception would then be created in ClinConnect.

  4. Once the placement by exception has been created, the education provider can allocate the student to the approved placement in the normal manner.

  5. The HETI has advised that if the amount of make-up time is minimal & can be completed prior to the placement officially ending, then the possibility that the student can stay back each day to make up this time is an option. A student however, cannot stay on placement once the placement has officially finished in ClinConnect.
