Student Verification

In order to undertake a clinical placement in any NSW Health publically owned health facility all students are required to be 'verified' in ClinConnect 7-days prior to the placement start date. Verification includes review of a student's immunisation status based on NSW Health 2024_015, a signed NSW Health Code of Conduct form and a National Police Certificate issued by an Australian Police Service. Students enrolled in Australian Universities who are on a student visa, are also required to provide a criminal record check from their country of origin or a statutory declaration signed in front of a NSW Justice of the peace declaring that they have no criminal history prior to entering Australia.

Temporary Immunisation Status

Only students enrolled in their first year at university will be given 'temporary' immunisation status following verification screening. Temporary status lasts six months from the date of issue and is not reinstated once it expires. It is assigned to a student's ClinConnect profile, if they are required to, obtain Hepatitis B serology, complete a course of Hepatitis B, and obtain serology to show immunity following the courses completion and/or to obtain an IGRA blood test for Tuberculosis, if required.

If the student's 'temporary' immunisation status expires before the clinical placement is due to commence, the students status in ClinConnect will automatically revert to 'non-compliant' and the student will be unable to commence placement as ClinConnect will automatically cancel the approved placement.

If the student's 'temporary' immunisation status expires during the clinical placement they must provide further information to their partner LHD to become compliant and to continue on placement after this date. If the student does not provide further information their status will automatically convert to non-compliant on the date their temporary status expires and the student should be sent home. Students can be advised on day 1 by SLHD staff that their 'temporary' status is about to expire and that they must provide further evidence to prevent being sent home.

To determine if a student has been given 'temporary' immunisation status, please refer to respective column on the placement allocation report.

Remember; 'Temporary' immunisation status is provided only once.

Criminal Record Checks

All students entering NSW Health facilities for clinical placement are required to produce a clear National Police Certificate when being verified. Documents issued prior to this date, expire three-years from the date of issue.  If during a clinical placement a National Police Certificate is to expire, ClinConnect will automatically cancel the clinical placement if a new National Police Certificate is not provided to NSW Health, no later than seven-days prior to the placements commencing date. Should a clinical placement be cancelled for this reason, the placement can be reinstated; contact the SLHD Clinical Placement Unit to discuss further if you would like a placement reinstated slhd-cpu@health.nsw.gov.au
