Education and Training

The department has a regular lecture program for consultant and junior staff, presented by junior and senior staff, along with external speakers. The program is emailed to all staff, along with an attendance register from the previous meeting suitable for attachment to the FANZCA CPD Portfolio.

There is a tutorial program for junior staff, which includes theory and practical sessions, simulation, and practice sessions for both the part 1 and part 2 ANZCA examinations. The trainee tutorial program and other teaching sessions are provided to all junior staff via email.

The Department is affiliated with the Sydney Medical School, and trains local and international medical students. We also provide training and experience for paramedics, and Emergency Department staff.

Departmental education and training sessions are restricted to attendance by departmental staff only.

Clinical Governance
To ensure a high standard of clinical practice, the Department runs regular quality assurance meetings. Incident reporting is managed through a state-wide online incident reporting system, as well as the national Anaesthetic Incident Reporting System.  Members of the department serve on key Hospital committees, including the Operating Theatre Management Committee, Drug Committee, and the Clinical Council; and contribute to the development of relevant Policies and Procedures.
