About Us

Nuclear Medicine is a specialised form of medical imaging which uses very small amounts of radioactive materials (radiopharmaceuticals) to assist in either the diagnosis of disease and injuries or to treat specific forms of cancer. Once introduced into the body, these radiopharmaceuticals then travel to specific areas or organs within the body allowing us to either image these areas or to begin treatment. The department has state of the art gamma cameras, including those that can simultaneously acquire a very low dose CT image that is then superimposed with a high degree of accuracy over the nuclear image, thereby precisely identifying the areas of interest or concern. Our staff specialists will therefore provide very specific reports to your referring doctors. In addition to our gamma cameras we have a stress laboratory for the purposes of undertaking nuclear cardiac stress tests, radiation laboratories for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and are approved for undertaking university student training.
